How to choose a tank of gas welding?
I'm doing a MIG welder. The Hobart 187 is gas ready, but does not come with a tank. I looked eBay and see a lot of argon and CO2 tanks 80 or 90 dollars loaned. There are 40 cubic feet. Of course, they are empty. The tank location a local welding supply for about $ 150. What are the advantages or disadvantages of buying a tank of welding or eBay seller locally? Is this a bit like a service station that charges a dollar more per gallon for full service?
EBay bought a tank, it worked for me. Transportation sea was a lot. But you have to remember if you own your own tank which are responsible for it. In other words, if the valve has to pay for repair (Expensive). Every ten years hydrostaticly the tank must be tested, is about $ 100, depending on who will take a. If you hire a maintenance, that's your problem, you pay for gas that you just swap tanks. So why should I buy? Because I've been welding for 32 years and this time his own tank was better than renting (the usual). The more I think about it in the long run, be better for me to rent, but just can not break that habit. Good luck any form of work remember that you must prove the property for a full tank. So do not buy a tank in the streets of the garage sale because it can not be able to complete the work you need the original document in the tank. (For MIG want a 75/25 gas mixture for best results. 75% argon, 25% of CO2. Do not use pure CO2, because it has reported problems with the solder in later life) (Pure Argon TIG) (30 + welding – Certificate)
